Harlem Blues CJB
Here is a fantastic arrangement by my good friend Kevin Yeates. The Tune is called Harlem Blues composed by W.C. Handy
The instrumentation is as follows:
- Clarinet
- Trumpet
- Trombone
- Banjo
- Tuba
- Score
This chart features wonderful ensemble parts which are completely written out. The solos are written as solo ad lib with the chord changes provided.
This is a lesser known tune written by W.C. Handy. At bars 6, 10, and 34 there are two-bar solos. They work well with either the banjo/piano or the clarinet. I have included two banjo/piano and two clarinet parts. This provides the option of having the banjo/piano take the solos or have the clarinet take them. If taking the solos, the player uses the part marked "with solo" just under the title on the first page.
This chart’s level of difficulty is rated: Hard. This rating means you will likely need to spend some time in the woodshed working this up! Likely the tempo, feel, key, range, and interpretation will be challenging. Don’t let this stop you – you can play this chart no matter what your groups skill level is – you just need to work at it.
