Here is a transcription of Jelly Roll Morton's Levee Serenaders ca. 1928. The tune is Midnight Mama.

The instrumentation is as follows:

  • Clarinet
  • 1st Trumpet
  • 2nd Trumpet
  • Trombone
  • Piano
  • Banjo/Guitar (one part)
  • Bass/Tuba (one part)
  • Drums
  • Score

This chart features wonderful ensemble parts which are completely written out except a few spots where the clarinet part is just a chord sketch. I removed the vocal and added a clarinet and trombone solo which are both ad lib solos.

This chart’s level of difficulty is rated: Medium. This rating typically means the average musician will be able to play it successfully after a few attempts. Tempo, key, and instrumental range all could pose a challenge.
